Five of us ventured out on a very hot day 33 deg C to participate in the quarterly sketchcrawl.

We started at the Treasury Casino

Sketched here until 10.30 am

Then across the Victoria Bridge

To the Queensland Art Gallery

The Art Gallery is on the left in the photo.  We sat under the trees and sketch for a little over 30 minutes.

I sketched the Victoria bridge, or part there of.

This baby magpie came to share his lunch with us.

Next we walked to the Queensland State Library.  we went into the RED BOX, which is a room build into the side of the building, jutting out over the river.  You can see it in the last river photo up there.

Batman Building 

It was the first major office tower in Brisbane's CBD to undergo a complete refurbishment, when its facade and roof were replaced in 1995, which resulted in the high-rise gaining nicknames, including the Batman Building and Gotham Tower.

The coloured buildings are the Brisbane City Library Buildings..

It was a good day.

Sketching the Kookaburra Queen paddle Steamer at Eagle Street Pier with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers

The Kookaburra River Queen Paddlewheelers are true icons of the Brisbane River.  The vessels were aptly named because the Kookaburra is a native Australian bird that is never seen to drink water – a prophecy that all boat owners would hope to emulate!

Millkraft Thompson Boatyards built Kookaburra Queen. She was the first wooden paddlewheeler built in Australia in the last century. Launched in 1986 and 1988 respectively, the Queens were crafted mainly from Queensland timbers, the 100 foot keels from ironbark, the sheathed hulls planked with oregon and spotted gum and the decks made from white beech.

After playing a major role in the popular World Expo 88, the vessels have become a part of Brisbane’s river scape for over 20 years. Both tourists and locals alike have been enjoying a unique view into the inner-city reaches of the Brisbane River.

It was a lovely day for sketching, not too hot.  Eight sketchers joined me.  Below are my sketches.

Sketching at the Museum of Brisbane with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers.

What a day, it was hot, hot hot. 35 degrees Celsius today and humid a little over 70%.  With such a hot day, what better place to go sketch than the Museum of Brisbane and sketch the Golden Age of Hollywood Gown display.

These paintings were painted from sketches I made in Stanley Street Southbank last year, when sketching with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers.

Day 5 is a finial on top of the Plough Inn - Day 6 and 7 are a Human Factor Sculpture by John Underwood 1988 for Expo 88

Sketching with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers in City Hall

King Georges Lion, one of two which "guard" the King George Square entrance to the Brisbane City Hall. They were initially on large sandstone plinths, as part of the George V memorial, which was unveiled in 1938, as a tribute to the King from the citizens of Brisbane.

Vehicular traffic, including a trolley-bus route, operated through the square until 1969, when the roadway was closed to traffic. Buildings on the northern side of the square were acquired by the City Council and demolished and work commenced on the construction of the underground King George Square Car Park. At the time of the construction, the statues, including that of King George V and the brass lions, were relocated to their present positions in the square and, between the statues and King George Square.

Museum of Brisbane is house on the third floor of City Hall. The exhibits are free, and they are really good. At present the have Costumes from the Golden Age of Hollywood

Sketching with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers - December 30th - 2014

The Brisbane Urban Sketchers ventured out for our last sketch of 2014. It was hot, 35 degrees Celsius, but oh so nice and cool inside the Brisbane Arcade 

The old Regent Theatre is now the New Information Centre for the Brisbane City Council.  It is here you can go as a local or tourist, to find out about what is happening in our beautiful city, and book a Greet with the Brisbane Greeters if you wish.

Old information Centre, which is most probably going to be destined to be yet another cafe..

The Tea Centre has the most amazing cups and teapots.  I could spend hours in there sketching, plus there is one super cat cup I have my eye on. :)
