The Old Windmill is a  heritage-listed tower located in Wickham Park, on Wickham Terrace in Spring Hill, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is the oldest surviving building in Queensland.
It was built in 1828 during colonial times by convicts for grinding grains, such as wheat and maize. The Old Windmill originally had wind-powered sails. The grinding of the grains was done by treadmill from October, 1828, with the wind-powered sails being used from December, 1828. The treadmill was dismantled in 1842 when the convict settlement was closed.

CURATORS COTTAGE City Botanic gardens

Built in 1905, for curator Walter Hill, it is on the heritage register.  It is now the Garden Club Café, and a fabulous place to have a coffee and a snack..

Plein Air Painting with the BRISBANE PLEIN AIR PAINTING GROUP

Today I headed to Lota creek with the BRISBANE PLEIN AIR PAINTING GROUP for our monthly paintout.  It was a lovely day.  Six of us came out.

Sketching at the Ship Inn with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers 10.02.2015

We sketched from the Ship Inn, an historic Pub in South Bank.  It was built in 1864, and once was a very rowdy sailors den, now it is a really nice pub, with fabulous atmosphere.

 

The weather was "iffy"  sunny one minute, and raining hard the next.  Mostly fine, but most of us stayed on the Ship Inn

 verandah with coffees at hand and sketched.

Sketching at the Queensland Art Gallery, with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers 03/02/15

46th Worldwide Sketchcrawl

Five of us ventured out on a very hot day 33 deg C to participate in the quarterly sketchcrawl.

We started at the Treasury Casino

Sketched here until 10.30 am

Then across the Victoria Bridge

To the Queensland Art Gallery

The Art Gallery is on the left in the photo.  We sat under the trees and sketch for a little over 30 minutes.

I sketched the Victoria bridge, or part there of.

This baby magpie came to share his lunch with us.

Next we walked to the Queensland State Library.  we went into the RED BOX, which is a room build into the side of the building, jutting out over the river.  You can see it in the last river photo up there.

Batman Building 

It was the first major office tower in Brisbane's CBD to undergo a complete refurbishment, when its facade and roof were replaced in 1995, which resulted in the high-rise gaining nicknames, including the Batman Building and Gotham Tower.

The coloured buildings are the Brisbane City Library Buildings..

It was a good day.

Sketching the Kookaburra Queen paddle Steamer at Eagle Street Pier with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers

The Kookaburra River Queen Paddlewheelers are true icons of the Brisbane River.  The vessels were aptly named because the Kookaburra is a native Australian bird that is never seen to drink water – a prophecy that all boat owners would hope to emulate!

Millkraft Thompson Boatyards built Kookaburra Queen. She was the first wooden paddlewheeler built in Australia in the last century. Launched in 1986 and 1988 respectively, the Queens were crafted mainly from Queensland timbers, the 100 foot keels from ironbark, the sheathed hulls planked with oregon and spotted gum and the decks made from white beech.

After playing a major role in the popular World Expo 88, the vessels have become a part of Brisbane’s river scape for over 20 years. Both tourists and locals alike have been enjoying a unique view into the inner-city reaches of the Brisbane River.

It was a lovely day for sketching, not too hot.  Eight sketchers joined me.  Below are my sketches.

Sketching at the Museum of Brisbane with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers.

What a day, it was hot, hot hot. 35 degrees Celsius today and humid a little over 70%.  With such a hot day, what better place to go sketch than the Museum of Brisbane and sketch the Golden Age of Hollywood Gown display.
