Beautiful autumn morning sketching with the Brisbane City Sketchers in the historical "Gabba" Village.
Woolloongabba, "Wulonkoppa" and comes from an Aboriginal word, and there are different
interpretations as to its meaning - either whirling waters or fighting
place. Home to the Brisbane Cricket Ground since 1896. The area is an ancient waterway, and there are underground springs there. The village is full of wonderful historical buildings, cafes and bars.
The Moreton Rubber Building was built in 1890, and house the shops. The owners of the shops lives upstairs in the second story, where they had verandas and french doors opening out onto them. A beautiful sight, and magnificent building. Sadly the verandahs have gone, the french doors boarded up and turned into fixed windows. makes part of the facade of the building where they once were look terribly sad.
This heritage listed building is now a bar/bistro. The interior is amazing, loving restored and when you walk in the doors you are taken back to a bygone era.
